Play on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and/or Saturday!

MSSC runs Spring, Summer, and Fall leagues each year. The Spring season usually starts in April and runs through mid-July. Summer season usually starts in mid-July and goes through early September. Fall season starts in August. These timeframes are subject to change depending on the weather. You can register a full team or sign up as an Individual and MSSC will place you on a team if we have any looking for additional players. The recommended roster size is 15 players.

Basic Info

Some league information appears on this page. More is found in our Frequently Asked Questions and the rulebooks linked in the grey menu bar toward the top of the page. General club policies can be found at the bottom of this page in the Info & Help section.

Fall 2020 Info

The Fall 2020 season will have the same modifications as the Summer season to comply with the "Forward Dane" plan. The major modifications are as follows:

  • We cannot run an actual league. What they are letting us do is identify specific teams and have intra-squad games within the team. We will combine your team with another team to form a new, larger team. Your team as registered will be considered a “sub-team” of the new, larger team and will play against the same sub-team every week. We’ll try to match up teams based on skill level as best we can
  • We will not record any game results or have playoffs. No prizes of any kind will be awarded
  • Team fees will be reduced slightly. MSSC’s costs will not be going down much, as we will still have to reserve the fields, pay to turn on the lights, provide game equipment, and supply extra items we didn’t need before. The Parks Department is also requiring us to have umpires to sanitize equipment and enforce “physical distancing” rules. Shirts and prizes will be eliminated, although you can still wear shirts if you have them from a prior season. Team fees will vary from $220 to $330 depending on the length of the season
  • Temporary rubber "throw down" bases will be added at each regular base, with one assigned to the runner and one to the fielder. The temporary base is 6 feet away from the regular base for "physical distancing" purposes
  • All aspects of "physical distancing" must be followed, so no tag plays, contact with any other players, high fives, hand shakes, etc. are allowed. All outs will be force outs
  • Due to the structure, we must have an even number of teams each night, since you will play against the same group of people each week. We are asking teams to be flexible with the night they play if at all possible in case we need to shift teams to other nights to get an even number

The deadlines to sign up vary depending on the night of the week, but they are as early as 9/20 for the Wednesday league. As things stand right now, registration for all leagues will close that week so we can shift teams between nights if necessary.

Scheduling

Since it is asked all the time: Scheduels are posted a few days after registration closes. If you signed up for Tuesday nights, your team plays on Tuesdays nights.

Format

  • Teams consist of ten players on the field. In co-ed leagues, at least four fielders must be female, and a female must hit at least every third at-bat
  • Team shirts, balls, and umpires are provided by MSSC. Players provide their own bats, gloves, and any protective equipment they wish to wear. No bats on the ASA's banned bat list will be permitted
  • Games are slow pitch and last seven innings or one hour - whichever comes first
  • Seasons are six regular season games plus single-elimination playoffs. All teams make the playoffs
  • Please read the rulebooks linked in the grey bar toward the top of the page for full details on formats and rules
  • We made a number of changes to the league rules prior to the 2019 season based upon player feedback. Please download the rulebook to review the changes

League Capacity

Weekday leagues typically have a capacity that varies depending on how many fields we are able to get. The Saturday league has no capacity and thus your team could potentially play anytime between 11:00 am and 4:00 pm. If you are considering a weekday league, do not wait until the last minute to register if you want to play.

Divisions: Upper, Intermediate, and Lower

We may be able to segment some leagues into separate divisions if we have multiple fields. Teams self-select their division, subject to MSSC approval. Be honest about your skill level, as teams who are truly Lower division teams do not enjoy getting blown out by teams who lie, and it makes the league look bad for allowing that type of skill disparity to occur. There is nothing wrong with being an Upper division team, and there are no prizes awarded in Intermediate or Lower. If you are at all questioning where your team belongs, please register for a higher division. If you played in a prior season and we know you're good enough to play in a higher division, we'll move you there. There is no guarantee we will be able to segment any given league into separate divisions. All teams may be placed in one division, or at least fewer than originally offered.

Individual registration details: Individuals may sign up and we will place you if we can. No payment is required at sign up. We will contact you if we have a spot for you and place you when payment is received.

  • Men: We typically are not able to place many males who register as Individuals in the co-ed league because most teams are not looking for additional males. Being placed as an Individual in a men's league (when offered) is much easier since we can normally form a "Free Agent" team.
  • Ladies: If you want to be placed on a team, it's best to sign up on your own and NOT request to be placed with a male, as there is a much smaller chance a team will pick you up if you want to play with a guy.
